Why We Give to Blackout Cancer
Saluki Athletics, SIH, and the SIH Foundation extend our heartfelt thanks to the jersey winners for their incredible generosity and unwavering support of Salukis Blackout Cancer. The personal stories behind your involvement are truly the driving force and inspiration behind this meaningful initiative.
- My mom was a BIG girl's basketball fan, she played Iowa High School 3 on 3. She passed before the advent of women's sports as we know it now; but she would have been an avid follower! (tho she would have said they play much too rough!) lol She passed away from cancer back in '97, I try to catch a jersey every year. If I can make it to the game, I try to find a young girl to go down with me to get the jersey. One year the girl and her whole team got to come down a meet the players and take pictures! – Mount
- Cancer runs in my family. I lost my mother to colon cancer when I was 19. She was 46 years young. This was 35 years ago. So many things have changed in the way of prevention and treatment through these years, however, the impact to the patient and family does not change. It is a difficult time that can be made easier by support from family, friends and generous supporters of charities such as this. I pray for cure(s) but also that awareness, prevention and early detection efforts continue to be visible and focused upon. I am dedicating this jersey to my brave and wonderful mother, gone too soon, so that I can remember and celebrate her life while helping others. Thank you to #33 for representing her during this game! Go Dawgs! – Heather
- I am honoring my mom. She never smoked a day in her life & her last colonoscopy was clean. Yet colon cancer matastisized into her lungs an she died at 74. I am also honoring my dad who was a diehard Sluki women's basketball fan and dragged mom to all the games. – Craig
