SIH MULBERRY CENTER AT HARRISBURG

SIH Foundation and HMC Foundation are proud to help change access to inpatient psychiatric care for all Southern Illinoisans by expanding the scope of services available at the SIH Mulberry Center at Harrisburg. In the lower third of the state of Illinois (30 counties) there are currently only 61 beds for inpatient psychiatric care, with 31 of those beds at Mulberry Center and the remaining beds 90 miles away. Without expansion of this facility, many patients must leave the area for psychiatric care, which negatively impacts their ability to recover close to their family, friends, and day-to-day lives. Furthermore, SIH hopes to expand Mulberry Center to continue to offer quality psychiatric care in an environment where comprehensive medical care is available. Through an interactive experience, patients learn to better understand themselves and begin accepting responsibility for their own wellbeing. This process provides opportunities for patients to practice effective alternatives for managing their lives.
